What makes a baby Jewish❓ From its painful hist

What makes a baby Jewish❓

From its painful historic connotations to its open invitation for exclusion, this is a loaded question. Yet, there is a deceptively simple answer: one is “technically” Jewish if their mother is Jewish. Of course, different sects of Judaism have different opinions on this answer. The complexity behind “What makes someone Jewish?” has only increased as artificial reproductive technology–or ART–has proliferated.

Today, we have the opportunity to speak with three incredible people who have helped make the answer to this question more inclusive to those born through ART. Attorney Jessica Chod fought to include children born to Jewish mothers by non-Jewish Gestational Carriers in the Conservative movement’s definition of “Jewish.” With the help of Rabbi Judith Hauptman and Rabbi Suzanne Brody, Jessica got the Committee on Jewish Law and Standards to change their halakhic position on non-Jewish surrogates!

Do you have a passion for assisting families struggling to grow and the ability to work with all types of people exploring opportunities to grow their family? Your work as the Director of Development will directly make a difference to struggling families by helping bring a new life into this world.

Not only are the number of families we serve growing, but we (our headquarters) is growing! Our team is currently seeking a Director of Development to join as the organization continues its plan for significant growth. The Director of Development will have the lead in connecting with, and cultivating the funders and partners needed for the organization to execute on its expansion plan.

The ideal Director of Development will have experience developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising and storytelling strategies and a commitment to systematizing and leveraging data to support fundraising and external relationships.

Compensation Range: $120,000 - $140,000 based on experience + benefits
Location: Flexible

Today, we wanted to spotlight Jazz Wolk, a special JFF-CINCY Program Recipient who celebrated her Bat Mitzvah (luau themed!) this past year and donated the money she raised to benefit JFF fertility grants. 🌴🍹
